A major op 120 D 664 — F minor D 625 — C minor D 958
Paul Badura-Skoda

Schubert's Piano Sonatas belong to the greatest revelations in music. None of these three sonatas offered on this CD was published in Schubert's life time. This recording is the fruit of an intense and prolonged study of Schubert's life and works during Mr. Badura-Skoda's years as Artist in Residence at the University of Wisconsin, Madison Wisconsin. Newly recorded.

The Sydney Opera House Recital, May 31, 1982. Paul Badura-Skoda

In 1952, at the age of twenty-four, Paul Badura-Skoda toured Australia for the first time. He took Melbourne by storm and was greeted with overwhelming critical enthusiasm. KL5141: Lou Harrison in Memory

Lou Harrison in Memory

Harrison's compositions demonstrate a wild, willful variety of means and technique. During the 1990s, he was required by each commission to write in a specific manner, i.e. twelve tone serialism, like Copland, Ives, etc. In general, Harrison is a melodist, but rhythm has a significant place in his work. This recording exemplifies these various characteristics of his work.

Concertante
Eric Wolfgang Korngold String Sextet in D Major, Opus 10 and
Frank Bridge String Sextet in E Flat Major

The String Sextet in D Major, Opus 10, was written during 1914-1915 when Korngold was seventeen. Despite the youth of its composer, the work is amazingly sophisticated, inventive and accomplished.

While Frank Bridge's fame rests on his being the teacher of Benjamin Britten, his own work, particularly his chamber music, stands on its own. Governing all in Bridge's music is an elegance of form and a lyricism that has its dark moments. The String Sextet in E-Flat Major reflects these attributes.

KL5143: Jung-Ja Kim Plays Mozart

Jung-Ja Kim Plays Mozart

On this new CD Jung-Ja Kim performs an interesting and exciting group of short pieces for the piano. These short compositions were written for some of Mozart's younger students and others for himself or his sister. They are difficult to perform, innovative in ideas and very witty in style.
